Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday

2 December 2017 is Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday is a national initiative aimed at encouraging people to use their local independent retailers and small businesses and in doing so boost local economies.

The reason for supporting Small Business Saturday is to give the retailers and service providers in our towns and villages a little extra boost in the run-up to Christmas.

Wyre Council are supporting Small Business Saturday.

Please support your local shops and services on Saturday 2 December for Small Business Saturday.

That’s the message from Wyre Council ahead of Small Business Saturday, a national initiative asking people to take a fresh look at small independent businesses and boost local economies.

As an incentive, all council pay and display car parks in Wyre will be free to use on Saturday 2 December. There is no need to buy a ticket, just park and stay for as long as you need.

In Wyre a massive 98% of businesses are classed as small enterprises (less than 50 employees). There is a fantastic range of independents offering everything from home furnishings, local produce, cafes, clothing, butchers and bakers.

Smaller independent businesses include Fleetwood Market traders, retailers at Marsh Mill in Thornton, the thriving High Street in Garstang, the distinctive compact centre in Poulton and of course a great choice of shopping in Cleveleys, Fleetwood and Knott End.

The reason for supporting Small Business Saturday is to give the retailers and service providers in our towns and villages a little extra boost in the run-up to Christmas.

Councillor Peter Murphy Cabinet Member with responsibility for Economic Development at Wyre Council said:

“Small businesses really are the lifeblood of our local economy, that’s why we’re encouraging people to shop locally on 2 December and perhaps do some of their Christmas shopping in a specialist gift shop.

“Alternatively people can visit the butchers and bakers, use local services instead of a faceless company online or book a holiday with a small independent agency – anything that will help keep money in Wyre.”

“We are providing free parking to encourage shoppers and we can support businesses behind the scenes, but what really counts is the number of customers that come through their doors.”
