A newly-formed group of local creative artists is behind a series of painting workshops in Blackpool that are already proving to be popular with the Town’s residents.
Susan Frye (pictured) is a member of ICAN, the Independent Creative Artists Network for Blackpool and The Fylde Coast. She will be presenting the series of free sessions at The Lakes Community Office, Mereside every Tuesday afternoon for 10 weeks from 22nd March 2016.
Susan, who graduated from Lancaster University BA with honours in Fine Art & Professional Practice explained, “The sessions will give people the chance to have fun and be creative. I’ll be demonstrating the basic techniques to the group and as much as possible helping through one-to-one guidance. I want to see everyone release their inner potential.”
Emma Kania from The Lakes Community Office added, “We’ve had a great response and only have a couple of places available now. Several of those coming along are engaging with the centre for the first time and everyone is really looking forward to the courses.”
Anyone wanting to enquire about the remaining places on the courses should telephone Emma on 01253 763300.
ICAN will be presenting other projects throughout the year, encouraging both those already active in the arts and those wanting to get involved.
More About ICAN
ICAN – Independent Creative Artists Network – has been formed by dozens of Fylde Coast based creatives across a range of media including painting, graphic design, photography, poetry, music, drama, urban art, screen-printing, needlework & textiles, technical support and more.
The aim of the group is to support each other through networking, joint-projects, opportunities to volunteer, loaning equipment and promotion.
Speaking on behalf of ICAN, Dave Hirst said, “The Fylde Coast and Blackpool in particular has some wonderful venues for the arts and events like Showzam bring amazing National and International famous artists into the area.
“ICAN is about the fantastic, creative talent we have right here on the doorstep.
“Much of the work our members are already doing is benefitting the local community, working with young people, those on low incomes or with mental health and social issues.”
ICAN is building a network of fantastic artists like you from every discipline that will help artists to CONNECT, be INVOLVED and be VISIBLE.
Over the past few months we’ve been amazed at just how many talented, creative people there are locally and we want to promote the amazing things you are doing.
As part of developing the website and social media sites, we want to feature YOU so now’s the time to send us some information.
– In around 200 words tell us about you, sell yourself! What you do, what inspires you, where people can see your work, what makes you unique and how you would like to be contacted – telephone, social media, website, email.
– Send us up to 3 images of the kind of things you do or just a picture of yourself so people can put a face to your work.
– Send your information to us at firstname.lastname@example.org
